How I work
How I work, from first interview to finished draft
I hold one 30 to 60 minute interview to capture your voice and your point of view, then send a short vision matrix for you to approve. Within a week of that approval you have the first document, and after that it runs on about 30 minutes a month of your time.
Step 1: the interview
We talk for 30 to 60 minutes. I capture how you think and how you say things. Before we speak I read your other writing, so the interview is about the ideas, not the basics.
Step 2: the matrix
Within a few days I send a short document that specifies your differentiated point of view along with the key topics you want to discuss. I capture your corporate positioning and vet it against competitive research, so the point of view is unique and provocative rather than another version of what your competitors already say.
Step 3: the first draft
Once you approve the matrix, I deliver the first document, a post, an opinion piece, or whatever the piece is meant to be, within a week. Drafts come back 90 to 95% of the way there, so approving them is reading, not rewriting.
Step 4: the ongoing cadence
After the first project, ongoing engagements run on about 30 minutes of your time a month. That is the point: a consistent voice without a second job.
The time commitment
My process requires about an hour of your time in week one, then 30 minutes a month thereafter.
What I need from you
One conversation, a look at anything you have already written, and your honest reaction to the matrix. Nothing else.
How I use AI
I use AI for competitive research, and sometimes to create starter outlines of longer documents. I never use it to write drafts, because the content has to represent your voice, and I would spend more time fixing AI’s bland and repetitive output than I would writing from scratch.
